Here is a list of all the cameras made by Cosina, this list includes cameras made by Cosina for other camera companys.
This list was compiled by the 200+ Members of the Camera Collector Message Board, this is the biggest group effort to date. To go back to the beginning of this reasearch, please follow this link; Cosina Research Thread This list is growing constantly because Mr. Kobayashi and his Cosina Camera Company is one of the only games in town in this digital age. Many camera companies have either gone out of business or into other endeavors, but not Cosina!

Cosina Company Ltd


Based in Tokyo & Nakano City, Nagano, Japan

Cosina is a producer of cameras, mostly for house brands. The company was founded by Mr B. Kohayashi in February 1959 as a lens factory. The Nakamo factory was established in January 1966, and produced it's first 35mm camera that year, they also produce lenses for cameras and projectors, and machined and moulded parts. In February 1968 the Obuse factory was established for glass melting and pressing. The Liyama factory was established in December 1972. This plant made 35mm camera lenses, other lenses and lens polishing, and eventually LCD projector engines.

The Vivitar Brand is produced under license and Vivitar Cameras are re-branded Cosina models. March 1980 saw the opening of the Nanase factory which made over the years various lenses, dichroic prisms, mirrors, 3CCd prisms, and mechanical moulding of parts. A research and development division was started in October 1987. In February 1989, Mr Hirofumi Kohayashi became the second president, taking the reins from his father who had founded the company.

Production of Voigtlander Bessa brand camera bodies and lenses began in April 1999. April 2000 the marketing Division and R&D; divisions were combined as Cosina Marketing Research and Development Division, and also began to produce cameras for Phoenix Camera LTD. In February 2002, the four factories combined as one company under the Cosina brand name.
